Music for a Saturday morning without a plan
Alert without urgency. The morning that hasn't decided yet what it wants to be.
There's a particular Saturday morning that doesn't have a plan attached to it. You're up, the coffee is made, the rest of the day is genuinely undecided. Music for it is different from music for a Sunday morning or a working morning — it doesn't need to support anything, but it also can't be too still.
The brief: alert without urgency. Lo-fi at low volume works. Wellness works if you want to keep the energy low and lounge. Anything that has a strong recommendation in it — go run, go work, go anywhere — is wrong for the hour. The morning is meant to be left open.
What I avoid is anything I'd put on for a specific room later. The focus playlist would announce work the morning isn't doing. The sleep playlist would push the day toward a return to bed. The right music for this hour is somehow not playlist-shaped — it's whatever you'd reach for if no one was watching.
Some Saturdays this hour becomes a plan; some it doesn't. The music has to be okay with either outcome. It's the only brief I know where the win condition is that the listener forgets why they put it on in the first place.
