On the bio track
Why every room has a track of mine underneath the playlist.
Every room on the site has a track of mine underneath the playlist. A short piece I wrote that fits the mood of the room. It's labelled, with an embed, and a sentence about why it belongs there.
It is, transparently, a piece of self-promotion. The reason it's there is because the site exists in part to put my own music in front of people who came for a playlist. I don't pretend otherwise. The footnote on the homepage says as much.
The reason it's done this way, and not as a banner or a 'listen to my music' button, is that I want the track to earn the slot the same way the playlist tracks earn theirs. If it doesn't fit the room, it shouldn't be there. A few tracks have been swapped out since launch because they didn't quite fit, even though they were mine.
It's a small trade — a couple of minutes of your time, in exchange for the rest of the site being free of advertising. If the track doesn't move you, skip it. If it does, you'll find more on the artist page. Either way, the playlist is still there.
