On the room I haven't built yet
Every few months I think about a sixth room. The brief is real; the music doesn't separate cleanly from the existing five.
Every few months I think about a sixth room. The strongest candidates have been: a room for cooking, a room for driving, a room for the in-between hour at the end of the day. None of them have made it to the home page.
The reason is the same each time. The brief is real, but the music for it doesn't separate cleanly from the existing rooms. A cooking room would be lo-fi with three percent more energy. A driving room would be lo-fi at slightly higher volume. The new room would dilute the existing one without earning its keep.
What might eventually justify a sixth room is a brief that none of the five can do at all. Something I keep wanting and can't borrow from the others. So far I haven't found one that holds up after a few weeks of testing. The borrow keeps winning.
It's also worth saying: a small site has a finite number of rooms. Six would still be small; eight would not. There's a ceiling here, even if I don't know exactly where it is, and it's lower than I'd like.
